I rated this park in July 2008. Not much has changed. We had hoped with new Management there would be a turn around. This 4th of July was the worst ever. Mortars and bottle rockets were going off in the lower Chardonnay area. We were given a number to call Security, but they never answered the phone. All we got was a recording all weekend long. Dogs were running loose throughout the campground, which made it difficult to walk our own two dogs on a leash. Children were driving gas powered golf carts round and round the loop day and night, and cutting through our campsites..next to satellite dishes and nice cars. When asked to stop the children said it was "their campsite" and called us the "B" word. We called Security numerous times and had talks with the gate guards on several occasions. Even then, talking to these people didn't help because as soon as they were gone the bad behavior started up. We had some people camp across from us who decided to play Jenga with 2x4's at 2 a.m. The police were called one night and hauled someone away for assaulting a Security Guard. I understand the group in lower Chardonnay threatened other campers. I imagine it was the same group as the one setting off fireworks in a burn area. The same broken soap dispenser remained unfixed from this Memorial Weekend. Our electrical boxes didn't have covers on them. The electrical power was going up and down all weekend as we notice from our air conditioners. We cancelled our reservations for next 4th of July and didn't book for next Memorial Weekend. They got $75 for Friday night, $100 for Sat. night and $65 for Sunday night. There is no cable. For these prices I expect a little more. Half the picnic tables and chairs are broken in the campground and you have to scrounge to get them. They are not available in all sites. The owner feels it's more important to plant grape vines at the entryway than to repair broken faucets in the bathroom, electrical boxes and replace picnic tables. We're not going back, which makes me sad as this was a very nice property. The owner just doesn't seem to care any longer and is letting it go down hill. This year there were 8 tents on 2 campsites...so much for the limit of people per site. They tried to say they didn't know...but if you read my review from last year...it was the same site. This guy is in it to make a buck any way he can...and has not put money into any improvements. If you go on a non holiday weekend I believe the fee is $65/night.

We camped here with a group on a very hot weekend. The park had very low voltage. I understand safe voltage is between 110-120. We were only getting 104-106 most of the weekend with only one air conditioner on and absolutely nothing else on. I was very concerned about damaging something with such low voltage. The service in the loop is only 30 amp. You could not have camped in an RV without the air being on as it was an extremely warm weekend and we were also camping with dogs. The campground is gorgeous nestled between hills and orange groves. However, I would never camp there again in the heat of the summer. I think it would be a gorgeous place to go back to in the Fall through Spring. The peacocks were fairly quiet during the night time hours and were definitely an added attraction. The restrooms were inadequate for a campground this size. There was one restroom with 2 toilets and a sink that all 3 campground loops shared. There was a another restroom attached to the clubhouse that had a toilet, sink and shower in it and was unisex. The 2nd restroom in the clubhouse was not working. It was rather annoying as we had rented the clubhouse to use for our group meals and we could not get in to use the toilet as there was a huge lineup of 10 people wanting to take a shower. Evidently there was another restroom out by the front gate, but people were using this one, which should have been off limits. The people using it were from the tent only area. That area should have it's own restroom facility, but only had Porta Potties. We did hear the public address system from a large group camped in the tent area...just what you want to hear when you're camping. We saw no sign of Management the whole weekend, which could be a plus or a minus. It would have been nice if they had told the other group to turn off their music and public address system late at night. The campground had a lot of trees and a grass area. If you have dogs, check out the grass as some areas had burr patches. The only recreation I saw was the horseshoe pits. The sprinklers came on several times Saturday night and flooded our campsite creating a mud pit outside our front door. They don't seem to watch the sprinklers as I finally turned one off after it had been on for an hour flooding the horseshoe pit area. Our friends said earlier in the week the sprinkler came on in their campsite for 7 hours overnight. So much for water conservation! The clubhouse is very nice for a group with a stove/oven, fridge, microwave, sink, tables and chairs. The downside is it was not air conditioned and so we had to keep the unscreened sliding door open. I didn't see any mosquitoes, but they did have an abundance of small flies. I would not call this place a resort by any stretch of the imagination. However it is a cute and quaint campground and I'm sure it would be lovely to camp in...if it weren't the middle of summer. There is only one dump station at the entrance to the campground. No backflushing allowed, just dumping. There is a $1.00/day fee for dogs.

We camped there with our RV club so we got a discounted rate for over 10 sites. This campground has a popular public boat launch. If you have a boat this is great. The campground is older and the sites very narrow. It was difficult to get my RV into the site and open both slides. There were trees close by on both sides. There is talk of taking the trees out, but this area is in the 100's in the summer months and this would make it miserable. My site had a frayed cable wire with no end on it. Management knew about it because when I complained the fellow said he had been walking around with a splitter "in case I complained". Gee how about fixing the problem instead of splitting the cable off of another site? There is a very nice club house with kitchen. However there were several groups in at the same time and we were told we'd have to split the club house with another group. There were no dividers to divide the space...which is common in RV club houses. The bathrooms were clean. The store was stocked. There were only 3 rows of RV sites for non permanent RVers. The permanent sites were on both sides of these rows and some of it looked pretty trashy. Supposedly this place is under new management, (Aren't they all?) and is going to get cleaned up. The worst part was the noise from Hwy 74. There is only a chain link fencing dividing the highway from the campground and the noise went all night long. I have stayed at Canyon RV (under the 91 freeway) and Ventura RV (next to the Ventura Fwy) and this noise was 10 times worse. I would not stay here again.

We camped here with a large group. Group rates are $35/night for 10 or more rigs. The office staff was extremely friendly and efficient. There is a charge for an extra vehicle over and above your rig and one car. I believe it was $5.00 per car plus $2.00 per person in the car. Even though the campground is almost under the freeway, after awhile you don't hear the freeway noise. There is at least a 50' high wall that blocks out a good portion of the noise. There is a lovely river that runs through the campground. I don't think this place has a bad campsite. Some sites were in the dirt with trees, others backed up to grass and trees. It was very nice. The campground was spotless as was the restroom and showers. This is truly a campground, not an RV resort. The sites were level and plenty of room in between sites. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and am already making plans to return. It is very dog friendly as there are large lawns to walk on by the river, park benches to sit at and even a gazebo. It is right off of the 91 freeway, so freeway access is a plus.

We camped their with an RV club. Upon check in a staff member saw me to my site and assisted in guiding the RV in. All sites are pull in, 30 amp, water, sewer, electric and cable. Sites are level concrete slabs with a grass strip between sites. This campground is on a hill and all sites are tiered up the hill. There is plenty of room to park a vehicle in front of or behind your rig. There is also room to open slides on both sides. The restrooms were spotless with some homey touches such as a sign and silk flowers. The grounds were immaculate. Eighty percent of the park residents are full timers. The long term residents were extremely friendly. There is a club house that is available for groups which is in the same room as the office. For our stay they set the tables in the club house with fresh flowers. There is also a very tiny pretty useless dog run above the pool. The pool area has firepits and a room enclosed on 3 sides. The bathrooms with showers are adjacent to the pool. There are additional bathrooms in the clubhouse. I did notice a laundry room and what may have been a workout room in the center of the park. We found the campground staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. The campground was very clean. The office has tons of brochures of local attractions, although the closest thing we could find was a winery in Agua Dulce...which we did visit and enjoy. The resort is right off of the 14 freeway. It's ideal for groups, and for people who are passing through. It's not a destination resort type of place. The park was also extremely quiet. They have a Security Guard that patrols in a truck at night. It also has a security gate at the entrance. Very nice place, nice staff and nice residents. I'll be back.

I camped here with an RV club, hence the discounted rate. I absolutely loved this place. The RV park was very clean. The bathrooms were clean and secured with a key lock. Although there are signs all over not to walk the dogs on the grass area, this was not a problem as there are 3 well maintained dog runs and we were given a key that gave us access to the ocean front park and marina...a good dog walking area. The club houses were used by other groups so Management set us up with a cabana on a site in the middle of our group..complete with tables, chairs and lighting, which was very nice. Check-in was fast. Pool area and grounds were all clean. It is very quiet. This is centrally located to many sites in San Diego. There is a train/tram approximately 1 mile from the RV park that cost $5.00 per day and hits many popular tourist sites. I would definitely go back. The walk on the outside of the park is gorgeous with water and marina views and lots of water fowl. Security is also good at this park. There are two very nice restaurants to walk to from the park. You can't beat this place.

This is my 2nd visit to this park. I go there only because it is close to home and a convenient location for a beach party with our local friends. We were lucky as the sand berm (which blocks views) was not built yet. The fire pits on the sand were also still in place which I understand they will pick up shortly as it's the "end of the season". I found the staff to be less than helpful. They were a stickler for parking passes and only one per space. We had 5 sites reserved for the weekend. One of our group arrived 1/2 hour early and they wanted to charge them $15.00 to park in the public parking lot for 1/2 an hour. I finally talked them into letting us pull into one of our other sites which I had paid for. There are quite a few homeless people that frequent this place. We had them digging through the trash and bedding down in the laundry room. This is also not a dog friendly place. Dogs are not allowed on the grass or on the sand which leaves 2 tiny dog runs (insufficient for large dogs) or the asphalt to go potty. There is dog poop everywhere. The Management told me our $3.00 fee per dog was used as a nuisance fee because dogs disturb the neighbors. Ridiculous! I'm sure the intent was for maintenance to clean the poop up that irresponsible dog owners leave. I will be contact the County Board of Supervisors this week to complain. There are also quite a few junker rigs that come into the park to dump all hours of the day and night. I would not call these people "full timers", although I suspect they live in their rigs on the streets. I would not leave anything unlocked there. The only thing park management enforces is the parking. Dogs were running loose all weekend, and kids were driving through our sites. I'm not sure I'd come back. It's convenient to home, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this place.

We have been going to this campground for years, but it's gone downhill. Used to be nice tables and patio chairs. Now the chairs are so cheap they are unsafe to sit on. Bathrooms were not clean. The rules say "no motorized vehicles" yet motorized golf carts cruised the park all day and night. We mentioned this Memorial Weekend to the management and again 4th of July and nothing was done. We're talking loud motors til midnight. Never saw a Security Guard the whole trip. Called at 11:30 at night to report a loud group partying and got a recording. Children were driving motorized vehicles as young as 10 years old although rules say must have licensed driver. Electric golf carts are allowed and owner seems to have now allowed motorized ones which buzz around all day and night. Used to be tenter's were only allowed with RV's in the Chardonnay area or had to camp in tent area. Now they are scattered all over and there seems to be no limit per site so you get large groups in each site, tossing their beer cans wherever. This was a burn area a few years back, yet we saw mortars and bottle rockets 4th of July with no signs prohibiting them...yet they are illegal in the county and have a $1500 fine. We go to get away from fireworks. Trees need to be trimmed in the sites and on the way in and out of the park. Difficult to avoid low hanging branches. Water slide price is $20 all day or $10 hour...but on holidays it's $10 hour, with no all day discount. Store used to be stocked...it was almost empty. Video arcade was filled with broken machines. Soda fountain in store was not working. Everything has totally gone downhill...except the pricing. We paid $75/night, but if you booked less than a year ago it was $100/night. Complaints to the office fall on deaf ears. When I said I saw a mortar, office worker told me it was her kids and poppers. Ridiculous response. They just don't seem to care about anything but making a buck. Still the sites themselves are nice in Chardonnay, crowded elsewhere. This place is better in the off season. Only positive is you can book side by side sites in advance.

Rates are as follows: 11/1/07 - 4/30/08 40.00 + 4.00 tax. Tent camping same dates 35.00 plus 3.50 tax. Rate 5/1/08 - 10/31/08 60.00 + 6.00 tax. Tent camping same dates 45.00 + 4.50 tax. Holiday rate, 3 day min RV's 70.00 + 7.00 tax per day. Tents 55.00 +5.50 tax per day. Group rates available. Club House rental $150/weekend. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers were clean. The park was very clean. They did have some maintenance issue (i.e. leaking toilet or pipe) over the weekend in one restroom. Restrooms do have combo locks. Make sure you get the combo upon check in. They do have many homeless in Ventura and don't want them using the restrooms. Security is at gate til 4 a.m. Walking distance to a charming town. Town had cute stores, restaurants, groceries, fast food, etc. Walking and bike paths to beach. Bike path right outside entrance. Bike rental within walking distance. Small playground for kids. Very accessible area on way to Emma Wood Group area to dog walk and to go to beach. Only down side is you are right next to the freeway and there is quite a bit of freeway noise. It is white noise and didn't bother me..but may bother some. There is a store with fast food and general merchandise. Convenient if you forgot something or just want a fountain drink. We were with an RV Club. I really enjoyed it. Also very accessible to jump on and off the freeway for quick weekend get-away from LA.

Making reservations was easy. Office and maintenance staff were very helpful. Same comment as previous responder...the sand burms do block the view. Suggest getting a site as close to one of the ends of the campground to get a partial ocean view. South bathroom was broken all weekend (didn't see anyone make attempt to fix it). Quite a bit of dog poop on the lawn areas. Maybe some people think their dog fee entitles them to not pick up. There are two small dog runs on either end of campground. Jet noise did not bother us. It was very windy and our RV, car and anything left outdoors was covered in sand. The good thing about the wind was it did keep the odor away from the sewage plant next door. When the wind stopped, the odor came back. Park is low on amenities but did have two small dog runs at either end. One of the few stop off points for travellers coming to LA and also great for locals wanting a quick get away.

Make sure when you book this you get in the full hookup tree area. The one side of the park is a virtual parking lot with barely enough room to pull out an awning...and set on asphalt. The other side of the park has some very spacious sites with large pine trees. Bathrooms were very clean. Did not look at the pool. Great location, walking distance into town. Extra charge for over 2 people and extra charge for pets. We had some people next to us arrive at midnight and then stay up til 2:30 a.m. both nights. No ranger on duty. Make sure you watch where you park your rig. Ours was a little close to our site line...and our neighbors fire was very close to our rig.

This is a beautiful campground. The upper Chardonnay sites are very spacious with trees and grass and cost $5.00 more. The lower sites are dirt, but with lots of trees. However the lower sites are much closer together and there is more action (kids, dogs, traffic). Rates seem to change every month. They currently charge $65 for a weekend and $50 for a week day. Holiday rates are $75 for a Friday and Sunday and $100 for a Saturday. The campground has gone down hill while the prices have gone up. If you book at a lower rate and they raise the prices they will try and stick you with the higher rate. Don't do it as they will back down. Chairs and tables are scarce in some sites. Security is invisible. There are rules against golf carts, yet they are always there whizzing buy with teens driving and loud music playing. Last visit had a pitt bull bark til 12:30 a.m. I like the campground itself, but the Management is getting very greedy with extra fees for staying in the Chardonnay area, extra pet fees, early check-in fees, even an entertainment fee (If they can't get you to pay the difference between the old rate and the new rate they will try to get you to buy an entertainment package per site). The advantage to this campground is that you can reserve specific sites and it is so large that it's fairly easy to get into year round.

This is a membership campground for Thousand Trails members and guests. Sites are beautiful. There are several different sections to choose from. Some people prefer the "Cliff" section. It's water and electric, on pavement. Sites are close together. The benefit would be it is close to the club house and the pool. Others prefer the lake section. Get there by Thursday night if you want a lake site for the weekend. They go fast. Then there is the upper section. I don't recommend that to anyone. A rather rough road and confusing signs. Not walking distance to anything...but very rustic. There is another private membership campground within this campground, also called Snowflower. Signs will indicate which sites are theirs, which TTN cannot access. Security is great, Rangers friendly, rental cabins and trailers are available, sites have lots of trees. Paddle boat, kayak and row boat rentals. Fishing. Swim beach. Very clean pool, restrooms and laundry areas. Mosquitoes at dawn and dusk, but ok the rest of the day. Just beautiful. You must be a member or be a guest of a member. I believe guest rates are around $35.
